Barn Conversion
Where Tradition Meets Light

Barn Conversion in Folgensbourg - Alsace, France.

This project involves the restoration and transformation of a traditional Alsatian barn, characterized by its gabled roof and timber structure, into a contemporary single-family residence. The objective is to preserve the identity of the original building while creating an open, warm, and naturally lit living space adapted to modern life.

The intervention maintains the historic wooden frame, selectively opening the interior to allow a new spatial flow. The existing timber cladding is carefully dismantled and reused as part of the new façade composition, reinforcing the connection with local craft and regional character.

Large windows are introduced to bring daylight deep into the space and to reveal the beauty of the aged structural wood, highlighting a generous double-height living area at the heart of the home.

A respectful transformation that bridges heritage and contemporary architecture - rooted in place, yet open to a new way of living.
